The meditative silence is enriched with the sound of bells tolling from the nearby blue-domed church, waves lapping on the volcanic shore and the gentle purring of a fishing boat as it glides across the caldera.

 

Faithful to the tradition of Santorini's unique architecture, the owners of Perivolas have restored a group of 300 year old caves that were once the homes, wineries and stables of indigenous fishermen and farmers.

 

With the help of native craftsmen and using volcanic raw material, this historic setting has been transformed into an "A" class complex of 17 private houses, reviving an age old neighborhood called Perivolas Hotel.

 

The complex that is Perivolas is set within an amphitheatrical landscape of curves stepping down to a central stone terrance with a pool that flows over the edge of the cliff into an Aegean horizon.

 

Next to the pool, an old winery is reborn as an indoor cafe and poolside bar.

 

Preserving the original structures and remaining true to local architectural traditions, no effort has been spared to conserve the aesthetics of the caves, while modern comforts and amenities have been added to satisfy every need.

 

Each private air conditioned house with its own stone terrace overlooking Santorini's famous caldera is unique, combining the old with the new, furnished with island antiques and handmade objects that speak of simple elegance and a refined personal touch.
